You don't need to get inked to enjoy the art of Brooklyn tattoo artist Scott Campbell

As art scenes in the Design District and now Wynwood have become overexposed, the cool kids have moved even further west, most notably to Our House West of Wynwood: O.H.W.O.W.
This past Saturday, the hip gallery hosted a damp but bustling launch of multi-media artist Scott Campbell's first major solo exhibition, appropriately named Make it Rain.
Louisiana-native Campbell opened Saved Tattoos in Brooklyn, known for its high quality tattoos and high profile clientele. Campbell has earned his bragging rights, having inked Helena Christensen, Marc Jacobs and Heath Ledger.
That he is a tattoo artist is clearly conveyed in its style and technique, as well as his jailhouse, religious, maritime and pop culture imagery. This guy etches into everything: books, fabric, skin and even tortillas. Yes, tortillas. Campbell went all out burning a chulo Bart Simpson shedding a tear into this edible treat.
A series of recognizable faces appear in photographs of tattoos, such as J.F.K. and Kermit the Frog, all in 3-D shades. Most striking are Campbell's laser cut sculptures created from stacks of dollar bills, which display thoughtful, amusing images and sayings such as "the thrill is gone."
Campbell is no stranger to the power of the dollar, having worked on major marketing campaigns for companies like Camel cigarettes. He makes his point with style and humor whichever side he's on -- corporate or counterculture.
