To Wasabi, or Not to Wasabi
Fashion takes a walk on the Japanese side at SushiSamba's Cosplay party

Miami fashion usually refers to booty shorts, bikinis, and shimmery muscle shirts.
That’s not to say that there aren’t other subcultures in this steamy city, but the mind always refers to default, and sweaty, cheesy clothes do actually still reign on South Beach.
One thing that definitely isn’t associated with the tropics is the wild, quirky, traditionally unfashionable Japanese street style, now known internationally (no) thanks to Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Girls.
Wasabi Fashion Kult (WFK) has brought a bit of this over-the-top extravagance to Lincoln Road. The last Tuesday of the month at Sushi Samba, people dress in their harajuku best for the Cosplay Wasabi Fashion Party.
Fashionistas that wander the streets of Tokyo fall into different categories, and cosplay is one of them. For these ladies, fashion becomes a performance, a costume role play, one that reflects anime and other Asian media iconography. To say the least, the garb is extreme and fun to take in.
WFK calls itself a “modern trend publication” that takes a good look at underground art, fashion, and music and approaches fashion as expression. They’re based locally, and though the online magazine is yet to be launched, you can get a taste of what’s to come at the party.
Be there around midnight and dress in pink. For the broke, there’s extra incentive to get involved since there’s a cash prize for the best dressed. To add to the wildness, there’ll be taiko drummers, Cirque X dancers, Geisha girls, and outrageously dressed Cosplay staff members.
