Former presidential candidates headline the weekend at the Miami book fair

Two central figures of the tumultuous 2000 presidential election will be back in South Florida this weekend, each appearing at the Miami book fair on two different days.

Former Vice President Al Gore is scheduled to attend an author session at the Miami Book Fair International on Saturday morning. A day later, former Green Party candidate Ralph Nader is expected to appear at the book fair, which is being held at Miami Dade College.

We wonder what would happen if the two actually saw each other? Our guess is Gore would get robbed again.

According to the fair's Web site, both events are free but require a ticket for admission.

Returning to the scene of the crime shouldn't bring any hard feelings for either former presidential candidate.

Gore has gone on to become one of the nation's leaders in environmental activism and he won a Nobel Peace Prize. So who needs the presidency, right?

As for Nader, 2000 was just like any other political year. He continues to lose presidential elections by wide margins.

Some Democrats believe Nader's candidacy cost Gore the election in 2000. They say Nader siphoned votes from Gore in Florida, which was awarded to George W. Bush in the razor-thin contest.
