NYC Opening: People Are Talking About LES's Newest Hole in the Wall Pok Pok Wing

Portland-based chef Andy Ricker, known in the foodie world for his Southeast Asian cooking prowess, has opened the much anticipated hole in the wall Pok Pok Wing on the Lower East Side in New York City. This tiny wing shack will be serving the famous Ike's Vietnamese Fish Sauce wings that have gotten bi-coastal foodies abuzz. As of yesterday, New Yorkers willing to wait in the cold, as there are only a few stools available in the spot that was formerly BaoHaus, can get a taste of the small menu, which offers: Papaya Pok Pok, a spicy green papaya salad, Kaho Man Som Tam, a green papaya salad with coconut rice and sweet shredded pork, and sticky rice.

As for beverages, booze aren't being served yet (they don't even have gas at this point), choose from Portland's finest Pok Pok Som Drinking Vinegars and Stumptown coffee. We're looking forward to the Kafae Boraan Yen, in particular--it's Thai-style sock-brewed Stumptown coffee with condensed milk. Classic Thai coffee made over!

And, that's about it, folks! The menu is small and simple, yet something tells us the offerings will be packed with flavor and a little (or a lot of) kick. Pok Pok Wing is quite possibly downtown's newest foodie gem.

Keep this on your foodie radar: Ricker's full-scale restaurant Pok Pok NY is also on its way--grand opening TBD.

Tune in to the "hole in the wall" episode of "1st Look" Saturday after "Saturday Night Live" on NBC!
