Iconic Larios on the Beach Reopens Featuring Calorie Conscious Cuban Menu

Larios on the Beach has reopened at 820 Ocean Drive and opens daily at 11 a.m.

In South Florida, you can go just about anywhere to get a decent plate of arroz con pollo, or a bistec empanizado con congri y platano maduros. But there’s one spot on South Beach that you can go for great food, delicious drinks, amazing music, a vibrant ambiance, and have that same spot be owned by two people that eat, sleep and breathe Miami. Larios on the Beach has reopened its doors – ready to serve you your classic Cuban dishes.

Music legends Gloria and Emilio Estefan have been working hard to bring you a culinary experience like no other. The restaurant originally opened in 1992, but recently closed its doors to undergo a complete renovation. Now, new art, sculptures, and treasured memories boast the décor of this iconic South Beach Cuban cuisine landmark. What’s really cool about the décor at Larios – an array of sea shells and marine fossils were carefully placed on the walls by Emilio himself. In keeping with the overall design, the floors are also made of sea shells and recycled glass.

Their new menu offers everything from sweet and salty bacon-wrapped maduros, to black bean hummus, to chicken vaca frita. But don’t be alarmed – you can still get your favorites: lechon, tamales, arroz con pollo, and all the other classics!

“It tastes like it’s right out of abuelita’s kitchen,” said Gloria at the grand re-opening of the restaurant, “My grandmother always dreamed of having a restaurant, and I grew up in the kitchen with her. So a lot of our recipes were hers.”

If you’re counting calories, Gloria handcrafted the “Calorie Conscious Cuban” menu. That menu features some guilt-free Cuban dishes, like grilled fresh grouper, baked plantain chips, vegetarian black beans and baked sweet plantains.

But if you’re looking for something a little more casual, pass by the bar, and grab one of their world-famous mojitos with some yummy appetizers. Or stop by la ventanita, and pick up a cafecito and a croqueta as you continue walking down Ocean Drive taking in the sights.

Larios on the Beach opens Friday, May 16th. The restaurant will serve both lunch and dinner. It’s located at 820 Ocean Drive and opens daily at 11 a.m.

Hasta la proxima, buen provecho!
