‘La Reina del Sur' Is Back on Telemundo

Spanish television's highly rated series, '"La Reina del Sur" (The Queen of the South) returns Monday night at 10 p.m. on Telemundo.

The network's most ambitious production to date picks up the story eight years after its main character Teresa Mendoza, played by international star Kate del Castillo, brought down Mexican presidential candidate Epifanio Vargas and has to enter the witness protection program.

In this season 2 of "La Reina del Sur," Mendoza leads a life of total anonymity in Italy as Maria Dantes, peacefully raising her daughter Sofia in the Tuscan village of Messa Marittima, but her life soon takes an unexpected turn as her past finally catches up to her and putting her and her family in total jeopardy.

The high-action Super Series was shot in eight countries around the world using the highest level of production values to date.

"La Reina del Sur" Season 2 stars a renowned international cast that includes Italian lead actor, Raoul Bova ("Under the Tuscan Sun," "All the Roads Lead to Rome"), Huberto Zurita ("La Querida del Centauro"), Isabella Sierra ("Cocaine Godmother"), Paola Nuñez ("Bad Boys for Life"), Antonio Gil ("The Man who Killed Don Quixote"), Patricia Reyes, Mark Tacher, Kika Edgar, Flavio Medina, Eduardo Santamarina and Academy nominated actor Eric Roberts as well as members of the original cast.

The first season of "Reina del Sur" broke ratings records for Telemundo with the finale outperforming all networks regardless of language and unleashed the network's Super Series franchise success story.

"La Reina del Sur" Season 2 is written by Roberto Stopello, Juan Marcos Blanco, Miguel Ferrari and Jose Miguel Nuñez and it's a co-production between Telemundo Global Studios and Netflix.
