Live Music this Week: December 2 – 8

Wed., Dec. 4 – Kendrick Lamar at Sound Stage at Mana Wynwood, 10 pm

Fresh off opening at the AAA for the much-hyped Yeezus tour, Kendrick Lamar makes an appearance at Art Basel. The sound stage at Mana Wywnood will host the party, which serves as kick off to a week long series of events from Flaunt Magazine and 3P Productions. Accompanying the live set from Lamar will be DJ sets from Artime and DZA, starting at 10 pm this Wednesday night.

Fri., Dec. 6 – Pop-up Piano Miami presents: Stokeswood at Hyde Midtown, 6:30 – 8:30 pm

Art and music are a natural combination – now add in some positive community involvement, and you have Pop Up Piano Miami. A series of pianos, hand painted by local artists, will be making their way around Miami this Basel, with the proceeds benefitting Guitars over Guns Organization. This Friday, Atlanta-based group Stokeswood will be headlining the show at Hyde Midtown as part of their musical series.

Sat., Dec. 7 – Basel Castle at Grand Central Park, 12 pm, $20 - $50

Three years ago, a seemingly out of place, Castle looking building in Wynwood opened its doors for a special event: Basel Castle. Now, the Castle has expanded past its original walls and heads down the block from Wynwood to Grand Central Park this Saturday night. The event blends together headliners such as SBTRKT and Chance the Rapper alongside visual artists Madsteez and Wolfdog for an all day Basel affair.

Sat., Dec. 7 – Questlove at Sound Stage at Mana Wynwood, $20

There are few artists that make the jump from bandmate to DJ quite like Questlove. Apart from being an avid tweeter/music snob (educator?), Questlove is famously the drummer of hip hop ground The Roots. Not only can does he seamlessly move from genre to genre with ease, but he also pulls obscure songs out from eras long gone without missing a beat.
