Sonia Velasquez Invites Color Into Your Home For Spring

Sonia Velasquez is ready to make a difference this week in South Beach as she doess on her show, “Extreme Makeover Home Edition Latin America.”

She is visiting the Hispanicize 2013 conference at the Eden Roc Hotel this week.

The Colombian-born star, who works closely with Sherwin Williams as the official paint sponsor on the show, whcih helps needy Latin American families rebuild their homes, will be serving as the brand’s Color Ambassador as part of their “Colores Latinos, Artistas Latinos” project.

“It's the small things that you might think are not that important that can help you wake up,” Velasquez said. “When you look over at a simple thing like the beautiful colors coming from one of your walls, it can change your mood and lift your spirits. Be creative and look for colors that inspire you. They don’t have to be the newest or hottest shades of the season. It’s about what colors make you happy.

"Natural light is also something I like to play with when changing up a room. Those two seemingly small changes can make a huge difference not only in your home but also in your life.”

There are many DIY projects that anyone can do to improve their surroundings, and she says people should not to be afraid of trying something out of their comfort zones. There are many available resources both online and at a local level that everyone should take advantage of.

“Right now there are so many resources available that no one should be intimidated to try out a new project. I remember the first time I wanted to build a bed for myself, my best friend and I researched the process and before we knew it, we were out buying the wood, painting and building. We had never done something like that and we had a lot of fun," she said.

“I suggest everyone do their research and take things step-by-step. If you need some help, you can reach out to me via Twitter or Facebook and I will do my best to help.”
