Conjunto Progreso and Palo Concert
 
This Friday, August 9, at 7pm the Miami Downtown Development Authority is hosting the last concert series of the summer season. The Miami DDA is ending the summer party this month by bringing the talents of Conjunto Progreso and PALO! to the Olympia Theater at Gusman Center . This month’s concert features Grammy nominated Band, Conjucto Progreso and Afro-Cuban Funk band, Palo.  Conjunto Progreso, has taken audiences back in time to the nostalgic era of early Cuban popular music. Led by Johnny Aguiló, son of Cuban trumpet legend and band leader Rolando "El Ruso" Aguiló, Conjunto Progreso has grown from a quartet, to its recent incarnation of eight members. Their album was honored by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences with a 2006 Grammy Award Nomination under the category of Best Traditional Tropical Latin Album.  The concert takes place at: Olympia Theater at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, 174 E Flagler Street.  For more information, contact: www.gusmancenter.org.
 
Miami Spice Kicks off
 
The happiest time of the year, Miami Spice, has officially arrived.  Set to run from August 1 – September 30, 2013, over 200 participating luxury and fine dining restaurants in Greater Miami and the Beaches are offering their signature dishes at a bargain. Food aficionados will marvel at this year’s Miami Spice program, which offers an affordable and convenient way for consumers to experience some of the best dining and nightlife in Miami. Participating restaurants will present discounted three-course lunch and dinner menus featuring a choice of an appetizer, entrée and dessert as part of the fixed price, excluding tax and gratuity. Luxury dining: three course prix-fixe lunches at $23 per person, dinners at $39.  Fine dining: three course prix –fixe lunches at $19 per person, dinners at $33. Some of our favorites so far include:  Gotham Steak, La Cote, Scarpetta and Hakkasan at the Fontainebleau; Red, the Steakhouse and Serafina at the Dream hotel.
