The Globe's CubaLibre Block Party

More than just a favorite cocktail or a burning desire among Cubans, CubaLibre (free Cuba) also happens to be huge block party hosted by Coral Gables institution, The Globe.
The fun starts at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17 and is free and ope to the public. In its tenth year, the annual CubaLibre BlockParty, features a free, open-air concert and festival in the heart of downtown Coral Gables along the entire 300 block of Alhambra Circle.  Celebrating Cuba’s first Independence Day of 1902, this year’s concert line-up will be headlined by Los 3 De La Habana whose vibrant and joyful style of Cuban rooted Latin fusion will have you dancing, literally, in the street.

Edwin Bonilla y su Son featuring Freddy Cardenas and Cheito Quinones will headline the concert. The bands powerful style of salsa, (driven by Bonilla, one of the premier percussionists in the game who has played with Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Madonna, Juan Luis Guerra, Marc Anthony, Cachao, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Celia Cruz and many more), is a tight blend of horns, Afro-Cuban rhythms and wide vocal arrangements resulting in deep, danceable "descargas" aimed at real salsa dancers. Rounding out the live concert will be a heartfelt “homenaje” (tribute) to Bebo Valdes whose recent passing signaled the loss of a true Cuban musical legend.  This year’s block party will also feature hand-picked vintage Cuban music by MC and DJ El Russo. In addition to the free concert, The Globe’s CubaLibre BlockParty will also showcase professional salsa dancers from Salsa Lovers dance academy offering free lessons, multiple Chivas Regal bars serving traditional Cuban cocktails, delicious street food, hand-rolled cigars and many more surprises.  Between live acts, DJ Nelly keeps the action going inside The Globe till 2am.  As always, festival goers are encouraged to come decked-out in their best guayaberas and Cuban-chic attire (including your best dancing shoes) to continue the block party’s “golden age of Cuba” theme.  For information visit:  www.theglobecafe.com or call 305.444.3555.
