Clooney's “Ides of March,” Starring Ryan Gosling, Opening Ides of October

George Clooney's fourth directorial effort is being released in time for awards season.

"The Ides of March," starring Ryan Gosling as a young staffer who learns the hard way just how dirty politics can get, is set to be released Oct. 14, Sony has announced.

The film, which also stars Paul Giamatti, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Evan Rachel Wood and Marisa Tomei, is based on Beau Williams' hit play "Farragut North," for which the the writer drew from his experiences on Howard Dean's 2004 presidential bid.

Set photos from "Ides," like the one above by way of Slash Film, began popping up all over cyberspace earlier this week.

We loved Clooney's first film as a director, "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind," based on the "autobiography" of "Gong Show" host Chuck Barris (played magnificently by Sam Rockwell), who claims to have done wet work for the CIA. "Good Night and Good Luck" was a solid, if unspectacular, film that earned Clooney Oscar nominations for directing and screenwriting. And there was "Leatherheads"...

Here's hoping Clooney returns to form.
