Jeremy Renner Taking on “The Bourne Legacy”

Well, if they insist on going back to the Bourne well sans Matt Damon, at least they got a solid leading man.

Our cousins over at Universal Pictures have announced that Jeremy Renner has been signed to star in "The Bourne Legacy," for director Tony Gilroy ("Michael Clayton"). Renner, coming off Oscar nominations for "The Hurt Locker" and "The Town," will take on the role of another operative from a covert government program similiar to the one that hatched Jason Bourne, according to a Deadline report.

Renner, of course, will also have a cameo in the upcoming summer blockbuster "Thor" which will tease his role in the massive Marvel crossover extravaganza "The Avengers."

Gilroy, meanwhile, takes his first stab helming a Bourne movie after nabbing screenwriter credits on the three Damon entries "The Bourne Identity," "The Bourne Supremacy," and "The Bourne Ultimatum."

Although we can't help but feel like this has the potential to be the action movie equivalent of "Van Wilder: The Rise of Taj" (A Bourne movie without Bourne?), we don't mind ignoring their attempts to tie the movies together as we sit back and watch Renner snap bones in 6 different languages.
