“Justice League of America” Coming in 2013, Batman to Be Reinvented

With the "Harry Potter" series winding down, Warner Brothers is going to need to find new, big-budget stories to tell, and apparently the void is to be filled in part by "The Justice League of America," and a "reinveted" Batman.

In a piece on the ascension of Jeff Rubinov to studio president at Warners' motion picture group, Ben Fritz of The Los Angeles Times casually mentions that Rubinov is "aiming to release new 'Batman' and 'Superman' films in 2012 and "Justice League," a teaming of DC's top heroes, in 2013."

Which, OK, fine, but a day later in a follow-up post to the LAT's Hero Complex Rubinov dropped the big bomb:

“We have the third Batman, but then we’ll have to reinvent Batman…Chris Nolan and [producing partner and wife] Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is.”

Suffice to say, we hate this idea. Yes, Superman and Spider-Man were both rebooted so soon after their most recent chapters, but those films were flops that most folks simply didn't like. But Nolan's two Batman films have been triumphs, and the third is apt to be more of the same--can't we at least savor them for a couple of years?

Warners has Batman and Superman on the way next year, Green Lantern this summer, with scripts for Flash and Wonder Woman in development. Can we expect Aquaman (paging Adrian Grenier!) or the Martian Manhunter? Green Arrow, Hawkman or Black Canary?

There's been a "JLA" movie kicking around for a couple for years, with a George Miller helmed version dying on the vine in 2008 and there's even a website dedicated to the film, announcing its arrival in 2011. But this is the first time there's been anything close to definitive.
