“Zorro: Beyond Thunderdome”?

The odds of this thing seeing the light of day are slim, but we can't help ourselves - Sony is apparently planning a reboot of "Zorro" that places the masked Spanish nobleman in a post-apocalyptic future wasteland.

We'll let that marinate for a second.

"Zorro: Beyond Thunderdome."

According to reports, the script comes from a pair of guys who seem hellbent on knocking Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer off the top spot on the "Please Someone Delete Their Copy of Final Draft" list (Friedberg and Seltzer are the two who infected the world with "Disaster Movie," "Epic Movie," et al) - Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy. Shipman and McGreevy are carving out a niche for themselves in Hollywood - they are they guys who circumvent copyright issues by simply "reimagining" classic stories in different settings (like "Once Upon a Time in Hell," which is just "The Count of Monte Cristo" set amongst London gangsters).

The working title is "Zorro Reborn." Sony previously had some success with more "traditional" Zorro movies like 1998's "The Mask of Zorro" and 2005's "The Legend of Zorro," both starring Antonio Banderas.

We now officially have a new in-development obsession.
