SWIM TREND: Bikinis, bikinis and more bikinis. Never have bathing suits been more popular in Miami Beach than at the Mercedes Benz Swim Week. Some of the hottest trends that showed on the catwalk this season were unexpected twists on beachwear. Whether it was True Religion’s denim bikinis with leather trim or Qiss Qiss’ bedroom approach to beachwear (think lingerie-looking suits), there were a cornucopia of cool and quirky looks leading up and down the runway. Disco-inspired suits strutted the catwalk at both Aqua di Lara and Crystal Jin. But it was bold patterns that stole the shows. Mara Hoffman’s tribal patterns mixed with big, bright colors were both beautiful and busy, while Trina Turk’s take on patterns was more pastel. Poko Pano embraced prints with a mix and match approach. From stripped tops with bird of paradise or watermelon bottoms, the pairings were unexpected and amazing.
