Charlie Sheen Says Thanks After Entering Rehab

"Like Errol Flynn, who had to put down his sword on occasion, I just want to say, thank you."

Actor Charlie Sheen, who went into rehab after an extensive party at his home ended with a trip to a hospital, thanked his fellow cast members and crew of "Two and a Half Men" Wednesday for their support.

"I have a lot of work to do to be able to return the support I have received from so many people," the 45-year-old actor said. "I want to say thank you to my fellow cast members, the crew of `Two and a Half Men' and everyone at CBS and Warner Bros., especially Les Moonves and Bruce Rosenblum for their concern and support.

"And to my fans, your good wishes have touched me very much. Like Errol Flynn, who had to put down his sword on occasion, I just want to say, thank you."

Flynn, the classic actor from "The Adventures of Robin Hood," had a reputation for womanizing in his day, PopEater noted. He died in 1959 at age 50 after bouts with alcoholism.

Sheen's statement, issued through publicist Stan Rosenfield, was the first issued by the actor since his now famous trip to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center last Thursday morning, following a reported marathon party featuring porn stars.

After his hospitalization, reports emerged that Sheen was suffering from a hiatal hernia. But at least one adult film actress who was at Sheen's home during the extended party said the actor was chugging vodka and using drugs -- revelations that earned the actor a  tongue-lashing from comedienne Joan Rivers.

In what could represent a crack in Sheen's scandal-proof "bad boy" image, Rivers said she no longer knew how to explain away his actions to her "Two and a Half Men"-loving grandson.

"I think he's an a--. When you have a child, darling, you'd better start setting an example," Rivers told The Advocate.

Also on Wednesday, a tape of the 9-1-1 call that led paramedics to Sheen's home was released. On the call, Sheen's doctor, Dr. Paul Nassif, tells a dispatcher that he had just spoken to the actor on the phone, and Sheen didn't want him to call 9-1-1, but he sounded extremely drunk.

Sheen was "very, very intoxicated, also apparently in a lot of pain," Nassif says on the call. "Kind of weird, the phone call I received."

Rosenfield announced last week that Sheen had voluntarily entered rehab, and CBS announced that production of "Two and a Half Men" was being placed on hiatus.

Sheen did not say whether he planned to back up his thanks to the crew he temporarily put out of work with financial assistance.
