Amy Schumer Jokes Boyfriend Ben Hanisch's Mom Took It ‘Too Far' by Telling TIME She's ‘Never Heard of Her'

Comedy Central star says she "totally fell in love" with the Chicago furniture maker

Amy Schumer and Ben Hanisch's romance is no spring fling.

"I met your boyfriend backstage and he's a very nice gentleman," Jimmy Fallon said on NBC's "The Tonight Show" Tuesday. "Isn't he nice? We're great. We're really good," the "Inside Amy Schumer" star said in agreement.

"We met and like totally fell in love and it's been really good, and it became viral Internet news. I think it's because he's really cute and people were like, 'What? Dating Amy? He has all his teeth!' Like, people were shocked. They were shocked." Schumer has even met the Chicago furniture maker's entire family. "They're great," she said.

Because Hanisch had never dated a celebrity prior to Schumer, the comedienne made sure to give his family some pointers. "I told them, 'Look, journalists are going to call you, because it's what they do. And they're going to come to the house,'" the actress, 34, said. "And they did."

"His family is so nice. They live in Illinois. His mom's the most excited person you'll ever meet in your life. Her name is Deb and she's just like, 'Oh, my gosh!' You know the girls on 'The Bachelor,' whenever they walk into a hotel room they act like they've never seen one before? They're like, 'Ahh! A couch! A mug! A lamp!' She is like that. At dinner she's like, 'Bottled water!' It's really cute. So, I told her, 'Deb, they're going to call you. Just say 'no comment.' And she's like, 'Oh, I got it, Amy. Don't you worry. No comment. Not a problem,'" Schumer recalled to Fallon. "Not even 10 minutes later I get a Google alert from TIME magazine that Deb was like, 'I've never heard of her before in my life!' Too far, Deb! Too far. You took it too far, Deb. She's so sweet."

During her "Tonight Show" appearance, Schumer also addressed her recent inclusion in a special issue of Glamour. "For those of you who don't know who I am, I'm a famous plus-size model," she joked. In all seriousness, she told the audience, "I love Glamour magazine. Honestly, they've been so nice to me. They've done so many great things for women, but what I learned, is that people really don't like being classified by 'plus-size.' We don't need these labels. We don't need 'em. It should just say what size you are."
