Hugh Jackman Shaves Head for Blackbeard Role

Hugh Jackman revealed his latest close shave on Instagram on Tuesday, but it wasn't his beard that got much of a trim.

Jackman, fresh off his gig as Tony Awards' host at Sunday's ceremony, is prepping for his role as Blackbeard the pirate in the upcoming live-action update of J.M. Barrie's "Peter Pan" tale.

"Blackbeard is born. #PAN," the "X-Men: Days of Future Past" star captioned the image, which shows his freshly-shaved gleaming skull and sculpted beard.

"Pan" tells the story of an orphan taken to the magical world of Neverland, where he leads a rebellion against the evil pirates led by Blackbeard.

Javier Bardem was at one point offered the role of Blackbeard, according to Variety, while John Malkovich is currently portraying the character on television in the NBC drama-adventure series "Crossbones."

Jackman's Instagram post quickly drew more than 20,000 likes, and 1,500 comments, the latter heavily peppered with expressions of shock and disbelief.

Warner Bros. announced the casting of Jackman back in January, along with "Friday Night Lights" actor Garrett Hedlund in the role of Captain Hook.

"Pan" is scheduled for release on July 17, 2015.
