Jay Leno Returning to TV with New CNBC Car Series

Former "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno is returning to TV with a new show on CNBC.

The new series, tentatively titled "Jay Leno's Garage," is based on his Emmy-winning web series. Leno's new primetime series will focus on...you guessed it, cars. From investments to the inner workings of the collectors market, the show will explore all things automotive.

"This show will be about anything that rolls, explodes and makes noise," Leno said in a statement. "We hope to highlight the passion and the stories behind the men and women who made the automobile the greatest invention of the 20th century."

Leno hosted "The Tonight Show" from 1992-2009 and 2010-2014. Jimmy Fallon took over as host in 2014.

"Jay will add tremendous star power and exceptional content to CNBC's primetime at the perfect time," CNBC President Mark Hoffman said in a statement. "CNBC at night has real momentum and Jay's personality, tremendous fan base and his passion for the subject will contribute mightily to our burgeoning primetime. We're really excited Jay will continue his storied career with the NBC family and with us at CNBC."

Leno previously hosted a one-hour special on CNBC titled "Jay Leno's Garage: The Ultimate Car Week." His online series has more than 1 million subscribers. The comedian will also serve as an executive producer on the series. A 2015 premiere date is being targeted.
