Kate Winslet: As a Child, ‘I Never Heard Positive Reinforcement'

Kate Winslet got personal while filming a recent episode of "Running Wild" with Bear Grylls, opening up about the body image issues she experienced while growing up.

The "Titanic" actress told Bear Grylls, "When I grew up, I never heard positive reinforcement about body image from any female in my life. I only heard negatives. That's very damaging, because then you're programmed as a young woman to immediately scrutinize yourself and how you look."

The Oscar winner makes sure to give her daughter the encouragement she never had. "I stand in front of the mirror and say to Mia, 'We are so lucky we have a shape. We're so lucky we're curvy. We're so lucky we've got good bums," Winslet revealed. "And she'll say, 'Mommy, I know, thank God.'"

Even Winslet has felt insecure about the way she looks: "I was bullied at school...I was chubby, always had big feet the wrong shoes, bad hair. There was one girl who was particularly horrible to me."

The Oscar winner came across this particular girl after gaining fame and success and told her, "'I want to thank you for being such a bitch because it made me a lot stronger."

Grylls took the actress to Snowdonia in northern Wales to trek mountainous terrain for the new episode of "Running Wild."
