Michael Phelps and Fiancée Nicole Johnson Expecting a Baby Boy

Michael Phelps is going to be a father.

The Olympic swimmer took to Instagram Wednesday to share the news that he and fiancée Nicole Johnson are expecting their first child, and they just found out they're going to have a baby boy.

"We found out 8weeks ago we were expecting," Phelps wrote beside a photo of him and the former Miss California USA 2010. "Today we're over 12 weeks and it looks like we're having a boy!!! #babymp #mp #lifeabouttochange #mpswim"

Johnson also shared the same photo on her Instagram account, writing, "Today marks 12 weeks and 5 days of us having a little one and yesterday we learned we're having a BOY! We couldn't be happier!!"

The couple has dated on and off since 2007 and got engaged in February. Phelps announced the news over Instagram with the simple caption: "She said yes."

Meanwhile, his blossoming family is a positive turn for Phelps who has faced some controversy over the last several years. He was arrested for a DUI in September 2014, which was followed by a suspension from the USA swimming team and caused him to check into a rehab facility for treatment.

Now, a year later, he is maintaining his sobriety until after the 2016 Olympics in Rio and can't help but reflect on the "many positives" it's brought him.

"Before I even went to court, I said to myself that I'm not going to drink until after Rio -- if I ever drink again," he told reporters during the U.S. championships in San Antonio in August. "That was a decision I made for myself. I'm being honest with myself. Going into 2008 and 2012, I didn't do that. I didn't say I was going to take a year off from drinking and not have a drink."

After getting engaged and turning 30 in June, the athlete says "there are so many positives" to sobriety and he now has "a completely clear head."

"If I'm going to come back, I need to do this the right way," Phelps said. "I've got to put my body in the best physical shape I can possibly get it in."
