Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, More ‘Lord of the Rings' Stars Pose for Reunion Photos

The crew first appeared together in "The Fellowship of the Ring," which opened 15 years ago

It's been 15 years since movie fans first met Middle-earth's heroic companions in "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring." To celebrate the big anniversary, five of the fellowship members got together for a reunion, complete with an epic cave battle reenactment.

On Monday, Dominic Monaghan, who played resourceful hobbit Merry Brandybuck, shared photos to his Instagram of the gathering. Monaghan snapped a picture with Viggo Mortensen, who brought the valiant Aragorn to life. Monaghan captioned the photo with a quote from the movie describing the heir to the kingdom of Gondor: "My captain. My king."

Monaghan also got a shot with his on-screen cousins: Elijah Wood, who played main protagonist and ring-touting Frodo Baggins, and Billy Boyd, who played loyal hobbit Pippin Took.

A third photo really got Monaghan's Instagram followers excited, collecting more than 50,000 likes. The four actors, along with Orlando Bloom, who played the vigilant elf Legolas, posed to recreate one of the film's pivotal scenes: A battle against orcs in the mines of Moria.

With eating utensils in hand, the five men made sure to prepare for the cave troll.

Monaghan's photos, which seem to show the fellowship strong as ever, came after Empire magazine published a nostalgia-packed anniversary interview Jan. 25 with the nine actors, who all asked each other nine questions. Monaghan included the magazine in the captions of his posts.

"The Fellowship of the Ring" premiered in December 2001, and the trilogy's last film, "The Return of the King," opened in 2003. Some of the actors reprised their roles in Peter Jackson's recent adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit."
