Ryan Gosling Eats Cereal in Honor of Meme-Maker Ryan McHenry

Ryan Gosling finally decided to eat his cereal, you guys.

The "Notebook" actor posted a video to Vine Monday that paid tribute to Ryan McHenry, the Scottish filmmaker who originally created the "Ryan Gosling Won't Eat His Cereal" video. McHenry died Sunday after a two-year battle with cancer, so Gosling poured himself a bowl of Corn Flakes, raised a spoonful in McHenry's honor and chomped down on his cereal.

Eva Mendes' longtime partner also tweeted a kind message to the late filmmaker, 27, writing, "My heart goes out to all of Ryan McHenry's family and friends. Feel very lucky to have been apart of his life in some small way."

McHenry also created very personal videos and "cancer selfies" about his battle with osteosarcoma from his hospital bed, and gained such a following that his fans helped him raise $10,000 after he had an operation on his leg. Sadly, the surgery wasn't enough to stop the cancer. He opened up to The Verge about how he hoped Gosling would respond to his viral video.

"As a filmmaker, I like to have a conclusion to things," he said. "The only conclusion I can see out of this whole thing is to have Ryan Gosling respond to this. Even if it's just him eating cereal."

People tweeted their requests for Gosling to respond to the famous meme as a tribute to the young filmmaker. Gosling saw, responded and made McHenry's dream come true.

Although the two never met while McHenry was alive, they did have a back-and-forth banter on Twitter, where Gosling admitted to actually loving cereal. McHenry apologized for his creation and asked for forgiveness, but the "Crazy, Stupid, Love" star wouldn't give it.

The combination of Gosling's response and McHenry's dedicated fans has already led to some good, with people launching a JustGiving page that has already raised more than $5,000.
