Man Sets Out to Beat Ellen's Oscar Retweet Record With Pet Selfie

This is one selfie face-off you don't want to miss.

A 65-year-old Texas man hopes a selfie with his dogs can top Ellen DeGeneres' Oscar retweet record.

Terry Shipman's photograph isn't celeb-packed like DeGeneres,' but features his sidekicks Max and Oreo — a Yorkie and a toy poodle.

DeGeneres set a Twitter record when her selfie featuring Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong'o and Channing Tatum was retweeted 3.2 million times.

As of Thursday morning, Shipman's post was retweeted more than 128,000 times.

"I have definitely felt the newfound fame," Shipman told NBC's "Today" show in a Skype interview.

Shipman, of Beaumont, jokingly snapped the selfie and tweeted it to his son who was at a Houston Rockets game. After his son and roommate retweeted it, his daughter eventually called to tell him it had been retweeted more than 900 times.

Shipman's Twitter account had skyrocketed from almost no followers to more than 6,000.

"I watch a lot of the evening news shows," he told "Today." "They're always saying if you have a comment, tweet us, so that's the reason I got the account, but I never used it for that purpose. I'm flabbergasted. I have to silence my phone because it's just constantly going off."

Shipman's post has also been retweeted by celebrities including "Today's" Carson Daly and supermodel Chrissy Teigen.
