It turns out those stories you heard about Tom Cruise talking for the first time about his divorce last summer from Katie Holmes weren't true after all.

While making the publicity rounds in Europe for Oblivion, the A-lister gave an interview to German TV network ProSieben in which he talked about turning the Big 5-0 and what the milestone birthday means to him.

Subsequent quotes circulating on the web had Cruise supposedly saying that the 34-year-old actress' decision last June to abruptly end their five-year marriage caught him by surprise.

"I did not expect that," and "Life is tragicomic, you need a certain sense of humor," were among the remarks attributed to the actor.

Cruise's rep however tells People that those quotes were false and just made up, and that he never discussed his personal life in the sit-down.

Cruise told ProSieben that "It's great to be 50" and spoke about receiving a new motorcycle as a birthday gift from "Oblivion" director Joseph Kosinski, which he drove around Iceland while they were filming there.

He also noted he's still learning a lot from making films.

"Sometimes you think you know it all, but it kind of hits you know nothing about movie making. And that's what drives me, that I constantly learn something," he said.
