Dennis Quaid: “My Life Was Falling Apart”

It looks as though Dennis Quaid sees his role in the new movie "Soul Surfer" as a chance to do some soul-searching.

He has already opened up about how the near-death of his twins helped him get in the right mindset to play a father faced with a tragedy, now he's opening up about his struggles with cocaine during a very free-wheeling time in Hollywood.

"It was supplied, basically, on movie sets because everyone was doing it," says Quaid, in an interview with Newsweek. "People would make deals. Instead of having a cocktail, you'd have a line."

"I'd wake up, snort a line, and swear I wasn't going to do it again that day. But then 4 o'clock rolled around, and I'd be right back down the same road like a little squirrel on one of those treadmills."

The veteran actor admits he kept up a positive fascade through it all. "Meanwhile," he admits, "my life was falling apart."

Quaid went through rehab in the 90s and credits the experience with giving him the strength to carry on.

"In the end, it taught me humility. I really learned to appreciate what I have in this life."
