“Gossip Girl” Blake Lively to Star in “Green Lantern”

"Gossip Girl" star moves to the big screen

Blake Lively is stepping out of her "Gossip Girl" shoes -- and into the world of superheroes.

The "Gossip Girl" star has officially landed the female lead in Warner Bros.' "Green Lantern" film, Variety.com reported Friday evening.

Lively, the blonde bombshell known for her role on the CW series as well as her turns in teen films like "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," will join actor Ryan Reynolds atop the film's marquee, according to Variety.

Lively will play pilot Carol Ferris, the love interest of Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan, another pilot who saves the universe with a green ring. The movie will be based on the classic DC Comics saga and will be released June 17, 2011, Variety reported.

Reynolds has long been on board for the "Green Lantern" flick -- he signed on in July for the title role.

Lively has also been seen on-screen in indie flick "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee" and the college comedy "Accepted."
