Born in Jamaica, raised in Mt. Vernon, the "Overweight Lover" Heavy D died on Nov. 8 at the age of 44. An actor, rapper, producer and singer helped break hip-hop to a wider market and left a secure legacy as an emcee. His final tweet -- "Be Inspired" -- is one for the ages.

The story of influential rapper Heavy D will be chronicled in a documentary airing Sunday on Centric TV.

“Be Inspired: The Life of Heavy D” will feature interviews with his family, friends, and artists like Will Smith, Queen Latifah, and Anthony Hamilton and Kim Fields, according to Centric TV, a part of the BET Network.

The hour-long documentary will also include emotional coverage from his funeral service that was held in his New York hometown, Mount Vernon.

Born Dwight Arrington Myers in Jamaica, the rapper became known to fans as the “Overweight Lover."  Myers had a stream of popular tunes throughout the late ‘80’s and ‘90’s, both as a solo artist and as front man for the group Heavy D and the Boys.

He was considered to be one of the most influential rap artists of that era.

A month after his first live performance in 15 years at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards, Heavy D, passed away at age 44. He died at his Beverly Hills home from a blood clot in his lung

In addition to his own successful music career, Myers was credited for helping other artists climb the ladder of success.  Myers was responsible for hiring Sean “Diddy” Combs as an intern and mentoring Queen Latifah.

Myers talents also appeared on television and the big screen.  He appeared on “Law and Order," “A Different World," and “The Tracy Morgan Show."  Recently, he made a cameo in Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller’s new film, “Tower Heist.”
