First Lady Makes Case for Early Voting in “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Debut

First Lady Michelle Obama made her first appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Wednesday, where she talked Halloween, disguises, and even laid out her plan to get the late night host to cast his vote on time.

Kimmel, who was the host of this year’s White House Correspondent’s Dinner, kicked off the segment by talking about how children from various schools come to the White House to trick-or-treat.

“You force vegetables down their throat,” Kimmel quipped, poking fun at Michelle Obama's role as a high-profile spokeswoman for healthy eating.

The talk show host and Obama also talked about Halloween costumes, which prompted the first lady to confide that she sometimes wears a costume of her own when she moves about in public so she doesn’t attract attention.

“It’s just a warm-up, cap,” the first lady said before stopping herself. “Oh, I shouldn’t tell my disguise!”

She also took the opportunity during Wednesday’s visit to encourage viewers to exercise their right to vote.

“You don’t know what will happen on Election Day,” Obama said. “We’re encouraging people to vote early and to use Election Day to help people get to the polls.”

But despite the first lady’s encouragement, Kimmel cautioned that come Election Day he might forget to cast his vote.

Michelle Obama took Kimmel’s confession in stride and unveiled her president-approved solution, a skit that showed her waking up the late-night host with a bullhorn:

The Obamas have been active on the late-night circuit in the weeks leading up to the Nov. 6 election, with President Obama making recent appearances on “The Tonight Show” and “The Daily Show. ”
