Miami-Dade Postal Carrier Assaulted, Robbed

A postal worker was robbed at gunpoint Monday, the second such incident in four days

A postal worker was robbed at gunpoint Monday in Miami-Dade County, authorities said.

The robbery was the second attack on a U.S. Postal Service employee in just four days. Friday, an employee was assaulted by two men. Monday, one was threatened at gunpoint.

Both of the crimes happened in the same area of Miami.

Postal inspectors said the crooks aren't after quick cash, and the crimes are becoming more violent.

Monday, the female employee was robbed of her master key to a box of mailboxes near NE 6th Avenue and 134th Street in North Miami.

"The assailant was wearing a mask," Postal Inspector Bladismir Rojo said.

Inspectors believe criminals want the master key to first steal mail, then people's identity or financial records.

Friday, another female postal carrier was assaulted for her master key by two men near the area of NE 146th Street and 11th Avenue in North Miami, just blocks away from Monday's robbery.

Postal Inspector Rojo called it, "Out of control."

"It was physical confrontation at that point, but now a gun was displayed," he said.

In December, a postal worker was killed on the job while he was delivering mail in an apartment complex near the Golden Glades Interchange. He was 60 years old, and worked for the US Postal Service nearly half of his life. Six months later, his alleged killers were caught and  accused of the deadly robbery to commit tax fraud.

Rojo said every single resource will be used to find who is responsible for the latest violent robberies.
