A teen on his way home Saturday afternoon was reportedly shot by three men in a car. The 15-year-old clings to life in a hospital while police search for leads.
A pair of drive-by shootings less than two miles apart in northwest Miami claimed two lives and left three people in critical condition on Saturday, including a 15-year-old boy.
The first burst of violence occurred in broad daylight when a car approached a teenager walking to his home in the 1400 block of NW 60th Street and opened fire, striking him several times.
The injured boy attempted to make it all the way to his apartment, but collapsed on the second floor of his building. He was rushed in critical condition to Jackson Memorial Hospital and underwent emergency surgery.
A second shooting just blocks away killed two people shortly after midnight. Officers responding to a report of shots fired found four gunshot victims at the scene near 5th Avenue and 54th Street.
Two of the wounded were pronounced dead at the scene, while one man and a woman were rushed to hospital.
Police are looking for at least two individuals seen firing out of a dark-colored mid-size vehicle, and so far have little more to go on in the case of the wounded teenager.
Detectives describe his assailants as three black males wearing ski masks, driving what may have been a white Nissan -- but say there's no motive yet for why anyone would target the victim. The boy's aunt described him as a good student and a good football player.
"There are too many crimes committed," said a neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous. "A lot of these kids are getting killed for no reason."
Anyone with information about either shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
