2 Dozen Injured in Miami-Dade Bus Collision

Bus collides with truck in Miami-Dade, 18 taken to hospitals

At least two dozen people were injured after a FedEx truck collided with a Miami-Dade Transit bus Tuesday, authorities said.

The crash happened around noon in the area of Northwest 17th Street and 7th Avenue in Miami.

Miami Fire Rescue said 23 people on the bus were being treated at the scene for injuries.

Miami-Dade Transit spokeswoman Karla Damian said 25 people were evaluated at the scene, including the bus driver, and 18 were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The injured were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, University of Miami Hospital, and Mount Sinai Medical Center on Miami Beach.

Thirty people were on the bus at the time of the crash, including a 16-year-old girl who requires the use of a wheelchair, officials said.

The driver of the FedEx truck was not injured, but was given a ticket for running a red light, according to Miami Fire Rescue.

The collision caused the front of the bus to be smashed and knocked the front window out.
