FHP investigating after woman in pickup going wrong way slams into car

Two people were injured in a wrong way crash on the Florida Turnpike extension near the Miami-Dade-Broward border Wednesday morning.

The crash happened on the Turnpike extension between Northwest 27th Avenue and Red Road when a woman driving a white SUV southbound in the northbound lanes slammed into an oncoming vehicle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The woman was taken to Memorial Hospital West with non-life threatening injuries, the FHP said.

2 In Custody After Chase Ends in Miami Gardens

The man driving the other vehicle suffered minor injuries. The SUV and other car were both badly damaged.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and said it's possible the SUV driver was intoxicated.
