A 2-year-old girl is in critical condition after being found floating in a three-foot-deep pool Friday morning, officials said.

The girl was taken to Homestead Hospital but has since been transferred to Miami Children's Hospital, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

"When Fire Rescue arrived on the scene, they found a police officer had gotten there before us performing CPR," said Lt. Arnold Piedrahita.

Authorities did not immediately release further details, but they were trying to find out how the girl got out of the duplex and into the pool.

"If you have a swimming pool, maintain that you have a fence or barrier and your swimming pool to prevent a child or anyone for that matter from getting into the pool," Piedrahita said.
