Five people were arrested and nearly 400 baggies of crack cocaine were seized during a raid on two suspected drug houses in North Miami Beach, authorities said Monday.
The raids were carried out Friday evening at the homes in the 2100 block of Northeast 135th Terrace and the 13600 block of Highland Drive, North Miami Beach Police said.
Both residences were suspected to be involved in the sale of crack cocaine and were part of a lengthy investigation.
Inside the home on Northeast 135th Terrace, police found 399 individual baggies of suspected crack cocaine as well as small amounts of marijuana and cash.
One suspect who tried to escape was bitten by a K-9 dog. Another was found to have an IRS tax check for $14,144 known to have been involved in tax fraud and identity theft.
Numerous blank WalMart gift cards were also found, which are commonly used to support funds gathered in various frauds and scams, police said.
Police said the occupants of the Highland Drive home are known gang members allegedly tied to the Latin Kings gang. Surveillance cameras used at one residence were believed to be used to monitor the approach of drug buyers and police.
No weapons were found in the raids but two female runaways from Hialeah were found in one of the homes. They were returned to their families.
The five people arrested face various charges including possession of cocaine, trafficking in cocaine, possession of marijuana and criminal use of personal identification. The suspect who was bitten by the dog was also charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
