WILDLIFE OFFICIALS ARE MONITORING DOZENS OF PILOT WHALES SWIMMING NEAR SHORE IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA
Officials from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Fisheries Service says at least three whales have died after becoming stranded Monday in shallow waters off Lee County. More than two dozen other whales were swimming nearby. Another two dozen whales were being monitored in the waters off Collier County.

Education Commissioner Pam Stewart is expected to present the recommendations Tuesday at the board's meeting in Miami. The Department of Education has developed a list of recommendations based on comments from parents and teachers statewide. The benchmarks for learning in language arts and math were adopted by Florida and more than 40 other states.
NORTH FLORIDA AUTHORITIES ARE INVESTIGATING THE DEATH OF A INMATE WHO COLLAPSED AT A JAIL
The Levy County Sheriff's Office says jail staff responded after seeing Terrance Lamar Wiggins collapse early Monday. Wiggins died at a hospital two hours later. Authorities say a preliminary investigation has determined that Wiggins had a medical condition before his Nov. 22 arrest, and he was being treated by jail medical staff. An autopsy is pending. Wiggins faced several drug charges.
FLORIDA PANHANDLE TEENAGER HOSPITALIZED IN SERIOUS CONDITION AFTER SHOOTING HERSELF IN LEG WHILE HUNTING
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Stan Kirkland says Andrea Wright was boarding a 4-wheeler Sunday morning when her shotgun went off. Kirkland says the gun was loaded with buckshot and the 16-year-old was struck in the leg. The teen was airlifted to a Pensacola hospital.
FORMER NEW YORK DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSMAN OTIS PIKE DIES IN FLORIDA AT AGE 92
Pike died Monday at a Vero Beach hospice after a long illness. Pike served 18 years in Congress before deciding to retire in 1978. In the mid-1970s, he chaired a House committee that investigated questionable CIA activities. The agency considered the inquiries as a dramatic shift in Congress and the first significant House investigation of the U.S. intelligence community since the CIA's creation in 1947.
