    FORMER SEN. LEMIEUX APPLIES FOR FAU PRESIDENCY
     
    Another political figure is throwing in his hat to become the next president of Florida Atlantic University. Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux announced Sunday he has submitted an application for the job. He joins a pool of nearly 50 other candidates, including Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater. An FAU search committee is scheduled to meet Monday and select eight candidates for interviews.

      FLA. NOT EXPECTING DAMAGE TO CITRUS FROM FREEZE
     
    Florida's citrus industry isn't expecting any damage to crops from a deep freeze afflicting much of the continental U.S. Temperatures are expected to dip into the 30s in parts of Florida on Tuesday. But Florida Citrus Mutual spokesman Andrew Meadows said temperatures must be at 28 degrees or lower four hours straight for fruit to freeze badly. Some pockets of low-lying areas could get that cold, but not any large swaths of land.
     
    MAN THREATENS NURSES, PATIENTS AT FLA. HOSPITAL BEFORE COMMITTING SUICIDE
     
    A 20-year-old man threatened patients and nurses with a gun before killing himself at a Florida hospital Sunday, police said. Daytona Beach Police Department officers said Jonathan Rodriguez-Jeff of Deltona shot a glass door entrance at Halifax Hospital. He confronted nurses and patients in two rooms before committing suicide. Two nurses sustained minor injuries. No patients were hurt.
     
    POLICE SHOOT, KILL MAN IN SARASOTA
     
    Two Sarasota police officers are on administrative leave after they fatally shot a man who pointed a weapon at them and refused orders to drop it. The shooting happened Sunday night.

    The Florida State Seminoles are preparing to meet Auburn in the Bowl Championship Series in Pasadena on Monday night.
     
    MAN ARRESTED IN MURDER OF TEEN MOTHER

    A suspect has been arrested in the murder of a teen mother who was shot and killed in front of her infant daughter in Lauderhill. Jalil Allen, 26, was arrested Sunday and charged with premeditated murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm in the death of 19-year-old Nicole Grier, Lauderhill Police said.
