FLORIDA LEGISLATURE MAY MOVE UP DATE OF PAY RAISE

Florida's teachers may get a proposed pay raise sooner than expected. Senate President Don Gaetz on Tuesday said that legislators did not intend to delay a proposed teacher pay raise until June 2014.

'PARENT TRIGGER' BILL FAILS IN SENATE

A highly contested bill to give parents a vote on turning around failing public schools has failed.

BILL AIMED AT KEEPING GUNS AWAY FROM MENTALLY ILL PEOPLE

The Senate has passed a bill aimed at keeping guns out of the hands of people with mental illness. Gun-rights advocates endorsed the bill, which cleared the Senate on a 38-0 vote. It now goes to the House.

DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS EXPECTED ALONG FLORIDA COAST

Florida's Division of Emergency Management says dangerous rip currents are expected to continue this week along the state's Atlantic coast. Officials say a high risk of rip currents is expected from Miami-Dade through Volusia counties. Beaches in northeast Florida and in Florida's western Panhandle have a moderate risk of rip currents.

NORTH MIAMI WHOLE FOODS OPENS

Whole Foods Market will open its new North Miami store at 9 a.m. Located at 12150 Biscayne Boulevard, the art deco-inspired Whole Foods Market North Miami is the company’s 19th store in Florida.

MIAMI POLICE MEMORIAL DAY

The Miami Police Department will be hosting its annual observance of Police Memorial Day with a 2 p.m. service at the Miami POlice College Auditorium at 350 Northwest 2nd Avenue. The event is open to the public.
