    SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS CONTINUE AFTER JET PLUNGES INTO ATLANTIC OFF FORT LAUDERDALE

    Two people have been confirmed dead in the crash of a jet en route to Mexico. Coast Guard officials say crews were searching early Wednesday for two other people who were aboard the Learjet 35 that crashed into the ocean shortly after taking off Tuesday night from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

    FLORIDA TO PICK NEW LEADER FOR STATE UNIVERSITIES

    Florida is expected to pick prominent business leader Marshall Criser III as the next chancellor of the state university system. The Board of Governors meets Wednesday on the campus of Florida International University. The panel is scheduled to take a formal vote on whether to hire Criser. A search committee earlier this month recommended Criser as the lone finalist.

    FLORIDA COUPLE CHALLENGES FRONT YARD GARDEN BAN

    A South Florida couple is heading to court to challenge a town's ordinance that bans vegetable gardens in the front yards of homes. Hermine Ricketts and Tom Carroll say the Miami Shores ordinance violates the Florida Constitution's property rights protections. The ordinance adopted in May includes possible fines of up to $50 per day.

    MAN ARRESTED FOR PUTTING CHILD PORN ON INSTAGRAM

    Southwest Florida deputies have arrested a man after he allegedly posted child pornography to social networking site Instagram. The Collier County Sheriff's Office reports that 18-year-old Sean Michael Rodriguez uploaded 20 pictures of boys ages 6-12 engaging in sex acts alone or with each other. Rodriguez was arrested Monday.

    FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE BLAZE IN DANIA BEACH

    Firefighters were batting heavy smoke and flames at a house fire in Dania Beach Wednesday morning. The fire was reported around 7 a.m. in the 700 block of Northwest 10th Avenue.

    YOUNG GIRL FIGHTS OFF WOULD-BE ABDUCTOR IN ALLAPATTAH

    A quick-thinking 12-year-old girl escaped her would-be abductor after he dragged her to the back of an abandoned home in Allapattah. The frightening incident happened as the girl was walking home from school in the area of on Northwest 11th Avenue and 32nd Street around 4:30 p.m. on November 14.
