    EX-GOV. CRIST LEADS GOV. SCOTT BY 7 POINTS IN POLL
     
    Republican-turned-Democrat Charlie Crist leads Gov. Rick Scott in a new poll. Quinnipiac University released a poll Thursday showing that 47 percent of voters prefer the former governor over the current governor, who was preferred by 40 percent. But Scott has narrowed the gap compared to a March poll that showed Crist ahead by 16 percentage points.

      MAN WHO CONFESSED IN WIFE'S DEATH SET FOR COURT
     
    A man who authorities say confessed to killing his wife is scheduled to appear in a central Florida courtroom. Luis Toledo's arraignment is scheduled Thursday morning at the Volusia County Courthouse in Deland. Toledo is charged with second-degree murder and domestic battery in the death of his wife, Yessienia Suarez.
     
    HEARING FOR ALLEGED $800 MILLION FLORIDA FRAUD MASTERMIND
     
    The health of the alleged mastermind of an $800 million insurance fraud scheme is the main topic of a hearing in Miami federal court. Federal prosecutors are asking U.S. District Judge Robert Scola to set a firm trial date Thursday for Joel Steinger, the former chief of now-defunct Mutual Benefits Corp. Steinger was set for trial in September, but that was delayed so he could undergo medical tests for a chronic spine ailment.
     
    FLIGHT DIVERTED TO ORLANDO AIRPORT AFTER TAKEOFF
     
    Officials say a plane traveling from Fort Myers to Boston was diverted to Orlando International Airport after an evacuation slide deployed mid-flight. OIA spokesman Rod Johnson says JetBlue flight 1266 landed in Orlando at 3:41 p.m. Wednesday. The plane was reportedly carrying 74 passengers and four crewmembers. No injuries were reported.
     
    MAN GETS LIFE IN PRISON FOR FATAL ATTACK
     
    A South Florida man suspected of killing several elderly women has been sentenced to life in prison. As part of a deal with Miami-Dade prosecutors to avoid the death penalty, 44-year-old Reginald Smith pleaded guilty Wednesday to murder and attempted murder.

    POLICE INVESTIGATE FATAL HEAD-ON COLLISION IN HOLLYWOOD

    Police are investigating after one person was killed and three others hospitalized following a head-on collision in Hollywood.
