With his playing career over, former England captain David Beckham has decided his next move: starting a Major League Soccer team in Miami. Since leaving the Los Angeles Galaxy in December, and retiring from the game after a subsequent five-month stint at Paris Saint-Germain, Beckham has been mulling over the location for his MLS franchise.
OFFICER STABBED, THEN FATALLY SHOOTS SUSPECT
A Miami-Dade police officer fatally shot a suspect who stabbed him during a confrontation near Miami International Airport on Tuesday night. The officer is in stable condition.
WISCONSIN WHOOPING CRANES HEAD TO FLORIDA
Two groups of Wisconsin-raised whooping cranes are on their way to warmer climates for the winter. The birds were released in the past few weeks and are expected to arrive at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge in Florida by the end of the year.
STATE HOLDING SECOND HEARING ON GAMBLING
Florida state senators are holding the second of four public hearings regarding the future of gambling. More than 50 people have signed to testify Wednesday during a meeting in Lakeland. Meetings are scheduled next month in Jacksonville and Pensacola.
DOCTOR PLEADS GUILTY
A Panhandle doctor who faked his suicide and disappeared while waiting for a retrial on prescription drug and health care fraud charges has pleaded guilty to the charges. A judge set sentencing for Robert L. Ignasiak Jr. for Jan. 14.
AVENTURA PICKPOCKET CAUGHT ON CAMERA
An Aventura pickpocket has been arrested after her crimes were caught on camera, and now police are looking for her accomplices. Luz Mary Munoz, 29, was arrested for third-degree grand theft after she was caught on surveillance cameras stealing wallets inside the Aventura Mall, Aventura Police spokesman Sgt. Chris Goranitis said Tuesday.
