9/11 Anniversary Events in South Florida

Events going on throughout South Florida to mark the 12th anniversary of the September 11 attacks

A number of events are taking place throughout South Florida Wednesday to mark the anniversary of 9/11. They include:

Fort Lauderdale Fire and Safety Museum 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

The Fort Lauderdale Fire and Safety Museum Inc. will hold a brief Remembrance ceremony beginning at 9:30 a.m. The event, which is open to all residents, will take place at the Restored Fire Museum at 1022 W. Las Olas Boulevard.

Miami-Dade Police and Fire Rescue 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

The Miami-Dade Police and Fire Rescue Departments will host a remembrance ceremony at Tropical Park at 7900 Bird Road at 9:30 a.m. Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, Miami-Dade Police Director J.D. Patterson and Fire Chief Dave Downy will all be attending.

Miami Police 9/11 Ceremony

Miami Police Department’s Chief Manuel Orosa is holding a 9/11 ceremony and will be unveiling a donated work of art titled “Grace” by the famous Italian artist Pietro Costa, who created it in commemoration of 9/11. The event will be held at 10 a.m., on the 2nd Floor of the Miami Police College at 350 Northwest 2nd Avenue.

BSO Patriot Day Ceremony

The Broward Sheriff Office's Patriot Day Ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at the Urban League of Broward County at 560 Northwest 27 Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. The event is free and open to the public. The keynote speaker will be Colonel Morris J. Hatcher of the United States Army Southern Command. The BSO Honor Guard will present colors, and there will be musical tributes performed by Colonel Gary Palmer, Linda Knowles and The New Young Patriots.

Pembroke Pines 9/11 Ceremony

Pembroke Pines is holding a Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony 8:30 a.m. at the Pembroke Pines City Center Memorial at 10300 Pines Boulevard immediately west of Pembroke Pines City Hall.  The Remembrance Ceremony begins with the Presentation of Colors by the City of Pembroke Pines Police and the Fire Department Honor Guards and will include guest speakers, patriotic music featuring local school bands and area musicians.

Margate Patriot Day Ceremony

The City of Margate is holding a Patriot Day Ceremony at 9 a.m. at Firefighters Park at 2500 Rock Island Road.

Miami-Dade Salvation Army "Remember and Honor" Ceremony

The Miami-Dade Salvation Army will hold a "remember and Honor" ceremony for 9/11 from 3-4 p.m. at the Salvation Army Headquarters at 1907 Northwest 28th Street in Miami. The ceremony will include a testimonial by emergency disaster specialist Richard Ford, who was deployed to World Trade Center after the 9/11 attacks, and a presentation by students of The Salvation Army School for the Performing Arts.

Hollywood 9/11 Memorial Concert

The American Legion Symphonic Band with world renowned vocalist James Perkowski will be performing, along with The Florida Police Pipe and Drum Corp and The BSO Honor Guard and Firing Squad at the ArtsPark Amphitheater at 1 Young Circle beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Broward College 9/11 Remembrance Events
 
Broward College will host events at its North Campus,  A. Hugh Adams Central Campus and Judson A. Samuels South Campus in remembrance of the anniversary of September 11.
 
The following event will take place at Broward College’s North Campus, 1000 Coconut Creek Blvd., Coconut Creek:
9/11 Memorial
Noon - 1:30 p.m.
Building 46, Room 152
 
Broward College’s North Campus will commemorate the fallen and honor the rebuilding of the site of Ground Zero and the Pentagon with speakers and a 9/11 memorial exhibit. Students, faculty and members of the community are invited to attend the event.
 
The following event will take place on Broward College’s A. Hugh Adams Central Campus, 3501 S.W. Davie Road, Davie:
9/11 Commemoration
7:45 a.m. – 7:50 a.m.
IPS Plaza, Building 21 and 22
 
Broward College’s Institute of Public Safety will remember police officers, firefighters and other first responders who perished on 9/11 with a five minute moment of silence during morning formation at 7:45 a.m.  
 
The following event will take place at Judson A. Samuels South Campus, 7200 Pines Blvd., Pembroke Pines:
September 11 National Day of Service Letter Writing Event
9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Breezeway, Building 68

Broward College’s South Campus will host a letter-writing campaign to be delivered to military members. Students, faculty and the community are invited to participate by writing letters, which will be collected in the Breezeway between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.   
            
Other activities at Broward College include a Remembrance Board at the Willis Holcombe Center, located in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Students and the community are invited to write their memories of 9/11 on a large display board located at the Activity Center in Building 33, Room 221.
