ATV Crash Cop Enters Not Guilty Plea

Derick Kuilan is charged with reckless driving and DUI

An attorney for the ex-Miami Beach cop accused of drunkenly crashing his ATV into two people entered a plea of not guilty on behalf of his client in court Thursday.

Derick Kuilan, 30, was not present. He is charged with reckless driving and DUI in the July incident, which allegedly occurred after Kuilan and another officer partied at the Clevelander Hotel on South Beach while on duty and in uniform.

Kuillan left the bar with a woman and, with her on the back of his department-issued ATV, crashed into two other people on the beach in the dark, according to Miami Beach police.

Both he and his partner were fired, and both have filed grievances against the City of Miami Beach, demanding reinstatement.
