Allen West Says He Won't Run for Senate

West said Monday that he decided he wants to stay in the House

Congressman Allen West says he won't be running for the Senate.

Speculation had been growing that West might join the Republican primary to challenge Sen. Bill Nelson. But the tea party favorite said Monday he'll run for a second House term instead.

West says he was approached about running for the upper chamber and "was willing to listen" but decided he wants to remain in the House.

West himself could face a tough challenge in his congressional re-election bid. Former West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel is considered a front runner among Democrats seeking to replace him.
