Arrest Made in Murder of Miami Shop Owner

DNA evidence links man to 2011 murder in Miami Gardens: Police

More than a year after a Miami store owner was shot and killed in a deadly robbery, police say they've arrested a suspect.

Serge Burrows, 22, is facing charges in the Feb. 15, 2011 murder of Salim Ullah, Miami Gardens Police said Thursday.

Burrows was identified through DNA evidence collected at the scene of the murder, police said. He was already behind bars at the Federal Correctional Institute in Mariana for a bank robbery he committed in North Miami-Dade County shortly after the murder, police said.

Police say Burrows walked into the Fast Cash and Urban Wear shop located at 2675 Northwest 207th Street in Miami Gardens and pulled a gun as Ullah and his wife were getting ready to open for business.

Ullah tried to take the gun from Burrows, but was eventually overpowered and shot, police said. He was airlifted to the hospital where he died from his wounds.

Burrows fled the scene after the shooting. Part of the incident was captured on the store's surveillance video.

Burrows is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.
