Police say they've arrested a suspect in the shooting of a teen who was walking home from school in Miami Thursday.

Terry Joseph Darling, 18, is facing one count of first-degree attempted murder and three counts of aggravated assault in the shooting of 17-year-old Brandon Allen, Miami Police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes said Friday.

Allen remains in serious condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital after undergoing surgery Thursday night, Reyes said.

Allen was walking home with his cousin from Miami Northwestern Senior High School in the area of Northwest 10th Avenue and 64th Street when the shooting happened, according to an arrest affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Darling drove by in a green Nissan Maxima, extended his body out the driver's side window and fired six shots across the roof of the vehicle at Allen and other witnesses. Darling fled the scene, police said.

Allen was hit on his neck and rushed to the hospital.

“He’s just a normal, sports-active kid. Not a flashy kid,” his brother Willie Calhoun said. “Video games was his thing. That was his interest.”

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, police said.
