Authorities are investigating after a dead manatee was discovered Wednesday morning in Miami Beach.
The manatee was discovered in a waterway near Biscayne Bay in the 4900 block of Pines Tree Drive, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Biologists from the FWC were in the process of removing the manatee from the water, and would be taking it to their facility in St. Petersburg to perform a necropsy to determine the cause of death.
The manatee had recently had a calf, but biologists from the Miami Seaquarium determined the calf was old enough to be alone in the wild.
