Nine fallen police officers and deputies will be remembered during a memorial service in Fort Lauderdale.
The Broward Sheriff's Office is holding the memorial on Thursday. Sheriff Scott Israel will say a few words in remembrance.
The officers being honored span several decades.
Deputy James Hillberry was killed in 1964 when a routine traffic stop ended in a scuffle and the suspect shooting Hillberry with his own gun.
Lauderdale Lakes Officer Jerry Genova was a motorcycle patrolman in 1972 when he was killed after a car crashed into him.
Deputy Michael Metroka, who died in 1997 from injuries he sustained in an on-duty hit-and-run car crash. His loyal K-9 partner, Woedon, survived the crash and stayed with Metroka until he was extracted from the wreckage and transported to the hospital.
