Pembroke Pines Bank Robber Scatters Cash on I-75

Police clean up money on highway after careless thief loses cash

A careless thief who robbed a Pembroke Pines bank Thursday morning left a mess of money on a South Florida interstate when some of the stolen cash flew out while he was making his escape.

Pembroke Pines Police said the Wells Fargo at 15759 Pines Boulevard was robbed Thursday morning at 11:40 a.m.

He was in and out in seconds, hopping the counter and helping himself to cash in the register, gun in hand, surveillance video shows. His only words were "give me the money," authorities said.

But as the suspect was making his getaway southbound on I-75 in a dark sport motorcycle, bills flew out of his black backpack and scattered on the highway, authorities said.

Officers were seen picking up the money on the interstate. FBI Special Agent Michael Leverock also said that several people "stopped to grab the money and retrieve it off the ground. I've got to let you know that the money has to be returned" to the FBI, he said.

A Pembroke Pines police officer was injured in a car accident on his way to the bank, and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The robber was last seen heading south on I-75. Here is a photo the FBI provided of him committing the robbery:

"Obviously he's dangerous," Leverock said. "Regardless of what speed he did it, he had a gun in his hand. Someone could have definitely got hurt."

Anyone who has information on the identity of the suspect is urged to call the FBI at 305-944-9101 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
