Bicyclist Fatally Hit By Pembroke Pines Cop Was Drunk: Cops

Tests by the Broward Medical Examiner's Office show that a bicyclist fatally hit by an on-duty Pembroke Pines officer's car was drunk, authorities said.

According to the tests, Douglas Beebout was was more than twice the level where a vehicle driver is legally impaired in the state, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Davie police as saying.

The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. on Monday in the area of Stirling Road and Northwest 66th Avenue, police said.

Beebout was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
Davie Police Captain Dale Engle said the cyclist wasn't near a crosswalk when he crossed the road, and said there was no sign the officer, later identified as Michael Pazienza, was drinking.
Police said witnesses told them Beebout was carrying beers, the newspaper reported.
 
Authorities were still investigating on crash.
